Firefighters were battling to contain three large fires and other small ones in Magoebaskloof and George’s Valley outside Tzaneen in Limpopo on Monday.

Emergency services and disaster management personnel in the Mopani District Municipality say they have been working tirelessly to extinguish multiple blazes.

“We have been working with other stakeholders throughout the day to try and contain the fire. The fire is not fully contained, however, we can safely report now that we have managed to secure the houses. The teams will be reconvening early in the morning,” an official says.

In the meantime, the public, particularly motorists, have been urged to exercise caution when driving through George’s Valley Road which is the R528 as well as the R71 Magoebaskloof Road and report all incidents of fire to emergency services.
