{"id":964245,"date":"2024-07-04T07:55:01","date_gmt":"2024-07-04T07:55:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/dm-simulator-v2\/?p=964245"},"modified":"2024-07-04T07:55:01","modified_gmt":"2024-07-04T07:55:01","slug":"sarupen-vows-to-keep-closer-eye-on-treasury","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elections.sabc.co.za\/elections2024\/sarupen-vows-to-keep-closer-eye-on-treasury\/","title":{"rendered":"Sarupen vows to keep closer eye on Treasury"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New Deputy Finance Minister Ashor Sarupen has vowed to keep a closer eye on the National Treasury, to ensure that corruption is stopped in its tracks.<\/p>\n<p>Sarupen, from the Democratic Alliance (DA), is part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabcnews.com\/sabcnews\/mashatile-sworn-in-as-deputy-president\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">76 members of the newly appointed National Executive sworn in yesterday.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>At 36 years old, he is also one of the youngest members of the National Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>Sarupen shared his thoughts with <em>SABC News<\/em> on some of the biggest challenges within the Treasury.<\/p>\n<p>He says, \u201cThe biggest challenge is that while Treasury is well run, the other departments get the money from Treasury and misspend it. So it\u2019s about getting the right procedures in place to ensure expenditure and slow spending doesn\u2019t happen and the money doesn&#8217;t get siphoned off in projects.
