{"id":964503,"date":"2024-07-06T09:46:16","date_gmt":"2024-07-06T09:46:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/dm-simulator-v2\/?p=964503"},"modified":"2024-07-06T09:46:16","modified_gmt":"2024-07-06T09:46:16","slug":"ramaphosa-congratulates-new-uk-pm-starmer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elections.sabc.co.za\/elections2024\/ramaphosa-congratulates-new-uk-pm-starmer\/","title":{"rendered":"Ramaphosa congratulates new UK PM Starmer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Cyril Ramaphosa has congratulated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabcnews.com\/sabcnews\/uks-newly-elected-starmer-makes-first-speech-as-pm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Keir Starmer<\/a> on his appointment as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>Starmer assumed the position following a landslide victory in the general elections held on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>President Ramaphosa expressed his eagerness to work with Starmer to strengthen the historic relations between South Africa and the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya says, \u201cPresident Ramaphosa looks forward to working with Prime Minister Starmer to enhance the strong historic relations between South Africa and the UK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;South Africa and the UK are strategic partners with a broad and vibrant relationship, guided by a commitment to liberal values, democracy, and the rule of law,&#8221; adds Magwenya.<\/p>\n<p>A statement released by the Presidency highlights that the UK is one of South Africa\u2019s largest bilateral trading and investment partners and remains South Africa\u2019s number one source of long-haul tourism.<\/p>\n<p>The statement adds that both countries collaborate in various multilateral fora to advance shared ideals and objectives.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, President Ramaphosa was the first Head of State to undertake a State Visit to the UK following an invitation from His Majesty, King Charles III.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Labour Party leader Keir Starmer addresses media following historic win<\/strong><br \/>\n<iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jKu9IkEqzPg?si=u0Vcmce41reyqgMc\" width=\"1060\" height=\"615\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block;
