{"id":965126,"date":"2024-07-10T13:30:22","date_gmt":"2024-07-10T13:30:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/dm-simulator-v2\/?p=965126"},"modified":"2024-07-10T13:30:22","modified_gmt":"2024-07-10T13:30:22","slug":"motlhotlho-residents-served-with-eviction-notice-by-anglo-american","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elections.sabc.co.za\/elections2024\/motlhotlho-residents-served-with-eviction-notice-by-anglo-american\/","title":{"rendered":"Motlhotlho residents served with eviction notice by Anglo American"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Residents at Motlhotlho outside Mokopane, Limpopo, have <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">been served<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> with an eviction notice by Anglo American Platinum to vacate land next to the mine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">More than 10 households still reside in Motlhotlho <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">next<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> to mining activities at Mogalakwena Platinum Mine. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">A re-settlement process was started<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> to <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">resettle<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> at least 900 families in the area more than 12 years ago.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The community has <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">been <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">resettled<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> in Armoede and Extension 14 in Mokopane.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The remaining families did not reach an agreement with the mine and have been given until July 14 to relocate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;The residents have received summons which indicate that within 30 days after they have received those summons they should vacate this place and if not <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">there<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> is going to <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">be forced<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> removal.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> They are forcefully removing us without fulfilling our demands, yet they want us to relocate<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, that<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> is why I believe they are forcefully removing us.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, Anglo American Platinum <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">spokesperson<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Keitumetse Masike says the re-settlement talks with the remaining households have failed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Masike says the mine has established a community trust to help provide the eleven households with employment and educational opportunities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;Eviction notices have been issued to the remaining in Motlhotlho <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">and<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> an eviction application has been launched <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">the remaining<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> households have all <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">been offered<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> temporary alternative accommodation.
