{"id":965286,"date":"2024-07-11T11:07:33","date_gmt":"2024-07-11T11:07:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/dm-simulator-v2\/?p=965286"},"modified":"2024-07-11T11:07:33","modified_gmt":"2024-07-11T11:07:33","slug":"education-mec-to-visit-families-of-learners-killed-in-accident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elections.sabc.co.za\/elections2024\/education-mec-to-visit-families-of-learners-killed-in-accident\/","title":{"rendered":"Education MEC to visit families of learners killed in accident"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane will on Thursday, visit the families of the learners who tragically lost their lives in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabcnews.com\/sabcnews\/gauteng-scholar-transport-accident-claims-12-students-and-driver\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fatal accident yesterday morning<\/a> in the Kokosi-Wedela area, Merafong, west of Johannesburg.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The deceased are learners from Rocklands Primary School and Laerskool Blyvoor in Carletonville.<\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-gb\">It is alleged that the\u00a0<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">minibus<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-gb\">\u00a0was hit from behind by a bakkie, causing it to overturn and subsequently catch\u00a0<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">alight<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">The authorities are currently investigating the circumstances <\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">around the incident<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona elaborates, <\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">&#8220;Gauteng [Education] MEC Matome Chiloane will be visiting the families of those children that perished yesterday, in a horrific accident that took place in Carltonville.
