The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says that the list of political parties that will contest next month\u2019s national elections will be finalised once all matters being heard in the Electoral Court are concluded.<\/p>\n

At least six applications that are before the court will be heard tomorrow.<\/p>\n

The electoral body\u2019s Commissioner Dr Nomsa Masuku says they don\u2019t expect the number to exceed 50.<\/p>\n

She was speaking at Gallagher Estate in Midrand, Johannesburg, on the sidelines of a ceremony in which leaders of political parties as well as independent candidates will sign the national Code of Conduct<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are expecting 55 political parties to contest the national elections \u2013 that number is not going to solidify until the Electoral Court has heard all the matters that are before it. That is why the number seems to be fluid; it\u2019s fluid because until the Electoral Court pronounces on the review of the decisions of the commission, we don\u2019t have an absolute number.\u201d<\/p>\n
