{"id":966535,"date":"2024-04-18T04:22:30","date_gmt":"2024-04-18T04:22:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/dm-simulator-v2\/?p=966535"},"modified":"2024-04-18T04:22:30","modified_gmt":"2024-04-18T04:22:30","slug":"labour-party-fulfilled-requirements-to-contest-polls-mathunjwa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elections.sabc.co.za\/elections2024\/labour-party-fulfilled-requirements-to-contest-polls-mathunjwa\/","title":{"rendered":"Labour Party fulfilled requirements to contest polls: Mathunjwa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"rt-reading-time\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\">&lt; 1<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minute<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Labour Party says all it wants is an opportunity to contest next month\u2019s elections.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, the Electoral Court dismissed the party\u2019s application to review the decision of the Electoral Commission not to reopen the portal for submissions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabcnews.com\/sabcnews\/labour-party-to-launch-application-to-set-aside-electoral-time-table\/?hilite=Labour+Party\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The party has now approached the Constitutional Court to seek to set aside the electoral timetable and postpone the elections.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Labour Party\u2019s interim executive member and President of the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU), Joseph Mathunjwa, says they fulfilled the necessary requirements.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, says they did not meet the deadline because of alleged glitches with the commission\u2019s online portal.<\/p>\n<p>Mathunjwa says, \u201cWe have paid their deposit and then we uploaded many of those signatures from different provinces and even nationally. The issue here was those signatures of the list of the people that we put on the list and they just want the original, that\u2019s the only thing.
