The president effectively now uses his presidential power to call on all media outlets in the midst of the eve of an election day, or Election Day, and effectively campaign for his party \u2013 and that is abuse of office and his power.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4><strong>PODCAST | MK Party files papers at the Electoral Court against President Cyril Ramaphosa:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><iframe title=\"MK Party files papers at the Electoral Court against President Cyril Ramaphosa\" src=\"https:\/\/omny.fm\/shows\/first-take-sa\/mk-party-files-papers-at-the-electoral-court-again\/embed\" width=\"100%\" height=\"180\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>DA also accuses Ramaphosa of abusing his power\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">Meanwhile, the Democratic Alliance (DA) has also filed papers <\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-za\">at the Electoral Court\u00a0<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">against Ramaphosa\u00a0over\u00a0<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-za\">Sunday\u2019s address to the nation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-za\">The party accuses Ramaphosa of being in violation of the Electoral Act and is asking<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-za\">\u00a0that the votes of the ruling African National Congress (ANC) to be reduced by one percent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The DA accuses Ramaphosa of abusing his position and public funds to campaign for the ANC.<\/p>\n<p>The official opposition says the president used his position as head of state to garner votes for the governing party.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018No legal basis\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Former President Kgalema Motlanthe says there is no basis for the DA\u2019s legal challenge against the president\u2019s address.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president remains the president until a new president is elected and inaugurated, so his duties don\u2019t end. The duties of the state continue even as we go into elections. So, I don\u2019t know if this hullabaloo about the president\u2019s address to the nation has any legal basis.
