{"id":967451,"date":"2024-05-29T11:37:18","date_gmt":"2024-05-29T11:37:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/dm-simulator-v2\/?p=967451"},"modified":"2024-05-29T11:37:18","modified_gmt":"2024-05-29T11:37:18","slug":"we-are-not-going-to-participate-in-voting-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elections.sabc.co.za\/elections2024\/we-are-not-going-to-participate-in-voting-today\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018We are not going to participate in voting today\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"rt-reading-time\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\">2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>While many South Africans make their way to voting stations today, there are people who have taken the decision not to vote.<\/p>\n<p>Some residents of Rustenburg in the North West are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabcnews.com\/sabcnews\/residents-of-siyanqoba-in-emalahleni-threaten-to-boycott-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">boycotting the elections<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>They have instead braced the cold weather to clean their neighbourhood.<\/p>\n<p>The residents of villages that include Lekgalong, Ikageng, Serutubi and Lesung say the government has failed to ensure that they receive basic services such as water and electricity.<\/p>\n<p>They have formed a civic movement called Ward 44 Community Empowerment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe as the civic movement of Ward 44 in Rustenburg have embarked on doing a cleaning campaign today on the election day on the 29th, and are not going to vote at all. We are not going to participate in voting today. We have suffered enough as Ward 44. We don\u2019t have roads, we don\u2019t have houses, we don\u2019t have RDPs and our reservoirs are leaking. So we are tired; our youth is not working. The businesses around Ward 44 don\u2019t recognise us. So we have opened a civic movement to make sure that they will recognise us,\u201d says movement leader Professor Kgaladi.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, some sex workers on the streets of Johannesburg say no politicians have come to speak to them during the elections campaigning.<\/p>\n<p>Thuli Sibanyoni \u2013 not her real name \u2013 has been on the streets for almost three months of the election campaigning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo far I have never seen any politician here.
