{"id":967587,"date":"2024-05-30T19:05:15","date_gmt":"2024-05-30T19:05:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/dm-simulator-v2\/?p=967587"},"modified":"2024-05-30T19:05:15","modified_gmt":"2024-05-30T19:05:15","slug":"a-change-in-political-landscape-is-on-the-cards-for-kzn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elections.sabc.co.za\/elections2024\/a-change-in-political-landscape-is-on-the-cards-for-kzn\/","title":{"rendered":"A change in political landscape is on the cards for KZN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"rt-reading-time\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\">3<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Even though the vote count isn\u2019t yet complete, it appears that a changed political landscape is on the cards for KwaZulu-Natal.<\/p>\n<p>The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party has emerged as an early frontrunner, ahead of the African National Congress (ANC) and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).<\/p>\n<p>The Electoral Commission in the province assessed that there were no major irregularities in the election in the province, although voting was delayed at some polling stations, mainly due to late delivery of voting material and problems with voter management devices.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MK party the frontrunner in KwaZulu-Natal:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vSEflhzbbuA?si=JCcH69razAOL9BI5\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Long queues<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The election was marked by long queues in urban areas and in the townships of Durban, where voters eagerly waited to cast their ballots.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of voters waited for hours to cast their vote, with many voting long after voting hours were extended beyond the 9 pm cut-off time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe lines were very long I think I came here at 8 pm and ended up leaving at 4 am. It was crazy. The lines were very long, and I couldn\u2019t wait that long to vote, and it was stressful. We got there in the morning, we ended up leaving late and we didn\u2019t even vote,\u201d a non-voter lamented.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very sad about not voting. It was my first time to vote I thought I would get the opportunity to make a change. I didn\u2019t get that chance,\u201d a voter explained.<\/p>\n<p>Another non-voter said, \u201cThey said I am not registered but I did register I don\u2019t know what happened. I feel so bad I\u2019m not okay. I wanted to vote. it was my right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Analysing results trends so far in KwaZulu-Natal: Prof Bheki Mngomezulu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ORguErTbzrM?si=qGzJ66_29yYKnp70\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Arrest<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The IEC in KwaZulu-Natal also confirmed the arrest of one of its officials in Pietermaritzburg over irregularities with a sealed ballot box.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, MK party members at Ladysmith organised early celebrations on Thursday, as news of the party\u2019s gains in the area was announced.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a victory for the MK and this is only the beginning.
