{"id":967600,"date":"2024-05-30T22:19:45","date_gmt":"2024-05-30T22:19:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/dm-simulator-v2\/?p=967600"},"modified":"2024-05-30T22:19:45","modified_gmt":"2024-05-30T22:19:45","slug":"anc-remains-in-pole-position-as-vote-counting-continues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elections.sabc.co.za\/elections2024\/anc-remains-in-pole-position-as-vote-counting-continues\/","title":{"rendered":"ANC remains in pole position as vote counting continues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"rt-reading-time\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\">2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>With almost 42% of the national votes counted, the African National Congress (ANC) remains in pole position with 42.6%, the Democratic Alliance (DA) with almost 24%, and the former president \u00a0Jacob Zuma\u2019s uMkhonto weSizwe Party at close to 10%.<\/p>\n<p>The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is not far behind, with 9.4% of the votes nationally.<\/p>\n<p>9 314 of the 23 293 voting districts have completed counting.<\/p>\n<p>This amounts to almost 5.2 million votes counted thus far.<\/p>\n<p>Nationally, the ANC has secured more than 2.2 million votes, the DA, just over 1.2 million votes and MK Party just over 500 000.<\/p>\n<p>HOPE4SA, the four-month-old political party has surprised many by already garnering more than 11 000 votes across the country.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), more than 70 200 votes have been declared as spoilt so far.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The video below reports more on vote counting:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/15rplfIgQN8?si=Wgoh8qIM1xMyxKka\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, s<span xml_lang=\"en-us\">ome elderly people and a person living with disability at Nzhelele outside Louis Trichardt, who had applied for special voting, allege they were not visited by IEC officials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">Limpopo received 96 000 special votes applications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">Joyce Rangolo and Valery Mbulaheni say they are disappointed that they were unable to exercise their democratic right to vote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">\u201cIt didn\u2019t sit well with me, I was expecting people to come so I can vote. I never saw anyone visiting. As a citizen it didn\u2019t sit well with me, I was intending to vote.
