{"id":967613,"date":"2024-05-31T04:46:56","date_gmt":"2024-05-31T04:46:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/dm-simulator-v2\/?p=967613"},"modified":"2024-05-31T04:46:56","modified_gmt":"2024-05-31T04:46:56","slug":"da-reiterates-commitment-to-multi-party-charter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elections.sabc.co.za\/elections2024\/da-reiterates-commitment-to-multi-party-charter\/","title":{"rendered":"DA reiterates commitment to Multi-Party Charter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"rt-reading-time\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\">2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">The Democratic Alliance (DA) has reiterated its commitment to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabcnews.com\/sabcnews\/opposition-parties-label-union-the-multi-party-charter-for-south-africa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Multi-Party Charter<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">This is despite reports that some in the <\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabcnews.com\/sabcnews\/anc-leads-in-7-provinces-50-of-vd-completed-nationally\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">African National Congress<\/a> (ANC)<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\"> wish to work with the DA should the governing party dip below 50%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">Early results have revealed a strong showing of the DA and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabcnews.com\/sabcnews\/mks-early-success-attributed-to-voters-frustration-with-anc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">uMkhontho we Sizwe (MK) Party<\/a>, with the <\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">ANC<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">\u00a0set to lose its parliamentary majority of almost 30 years. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">Speaking to <\/span><em><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">SABC News<\/span><\/em><span xml_lang=\"en-us\"> at the Electoral Commission\u2019s<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">\u00a0Results Operation Centre in\u00a0<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">Midrand<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\"> last night, DA spokesperson, <\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">Solly<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">\u00a0<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">Malatsi,<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">\u00a0says there hasn\u2019t been any talks with the\u00a0<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">ANC<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\"> on a possible coalition agreement after the polls.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">\u201cWe are very committed to the Multi-Party Charter. Its something that we initiated so we have an extra responsibility to it. We were always clear from the onset that we need every party in the Multi-Party Charter to also grow so that we all stand a strong chance of being closer to 50% plus one. I think one of the first things that will happen after the official results is that the Multi-Party Charter will convene and they will have a conversation guided by the results in terms of how do we best proceed going forward.
