{"id":967617,"date":"2024-05-31T08:03:23","date_gmt":"2024-05-31T08:03:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/dm-simulator-v2\/?p=967617"},"modified":"2024-05-31T08:03:23","modified_gmt":"2024-05-31T08:03:23","slug":"anc-unlikely-to-emerge-with-two-thirds-majority","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elections.sabc.co.za\/elections2024\/anc-unlikely-to-emerge-with-two-thirds-majority\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018ANC unlikely to emerge with two-thirds majority\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"rt-reading-time\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\">2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Political analyst Professor Bheki Mngomezulu says the current ruling party \u2013 the African National Congress <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabcnews.com\/sabcnews\/anc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">(ANC) \u2013 is unlikely to emerge with a two thirds majority<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Mngomezulu is reacting to the results of this week\u2019s general elections.<\/p>\n<p>In KwaZulu-Natal, the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK) emerged as the front runner on the first day of results in KwaZulu-Natal, ahead of the ruling ANC and the official opposition in the province, the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLooking at the elections in 2016, 2019, 2021, leads me to the conclusion that the ANC is going down, it has retained the province but with a reduced majority. So, with the emergence of the MK party and of course with the multi party charter led by the DA and with the upward trajectory of the IFP, I don\u2019t see the ANC getting the 0 plus 1 threshold,\u201d elaborates Mngomezulu.<\/p>\n<p>This comes on the second day of counting in this seventh general elections, the MK Party remains firmly in the lead with 44.48% in KwaZulu-Natal.<\/p>\n<p>This is with just over 37% of the count in, in the province.<\/p>\n<p>They are followed by the ANC with 18.70% and the IFP with 17.8%.<\/p>\n<p>The Democratic Alliance (DA) trails behind the IFP at 13.5%.<\/p>\n<p>The MK Party- led by former President Jacob Zuma \u2013 has already led celebrations in the Ladysmith area in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.<\/p>\n<p>Preliminary results are expected on Sunday.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style-scope ytd-watch-metadata\">2024 Elections | Analysing results trends so far in KwaZulu-Natal: Prof Bheki Mngomezulu<\/h4>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ORguErTbzrM?si=gix2_CuQs4CpYoD4\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reading Time: 2 minutes Political analyst Professor Bheki Mngomezulu says the current ruling party \u2013 the African National Congress (ANC) \u2013 is unlikely to emerge with a two thirds majority.
