The fledgling party, which was established a mere six months ago, has surpassed a voting record set by the Congress of the People (COPE) in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>COPE \u2013 a breakaway party from the African National Congress\u00a0 (ANC) \u2013 amassed 1.3 million votes then \u2013 the largest ever for a new political party in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>MK has now amassed 1,354 million votes \u2013 beating that record.<\/p>\n<p>The Economic Freedom Fighters garnered more than a million votes in 2014 but did not surpass COPE\u2019s figures at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, MK is enjoying an overwhelming lead in KwaZulu-Natal with more than 44 % of the votes.
