{"id":967706,"date":"2024-06-01T06:54:56","date_gmt":"2024-06-01T06:54:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/dm-simulator-v2\/?p=967706"},"modified":"2024-06-01T06:54:56","modified_gmt":"2024-06-01T06:54:56","slug":"iec-nearing-completion-of-vote-capturing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elections.sabc.co.za\/elections2024\/iec-nearing-completion-of-vote-capturing\/","title":{"rendered":"IEC nearing completion of vote capturing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"rt-reading-time\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\">2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabcnews.com\/sabcnews\/945307-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC)<\/a> is nearing the completion of vote capturing.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, more than 96% of the national votes have been declared; the ANC remains in pole position with just over 40%; the DA is close to 22%; and the former President Jacob Zuma\u2019s MK party is at just under 15% of the votes.<\/p>\n<p>The MK Party has set a new record for the largest number of votes achieved in a general election by a new political party in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The IEC says it will announce the final results on Sunday. Legally, it has until Wednesday to announce the results and seat allocations, seven days after the election.<\/p>\n<p>Coalition talks have a maximum of 14 days to conclude because, according to parliamentary law, that\u2019s the time within which the National Assembly must sit.<\/p>\n<p>If the chief justice does not call a National Assembly sitting within two weeks, the President must then call a new election to take place within 90 days.<\/p>\n<p>The first order of business at the National Assembly sitting is the swearing-in of the MP\u2019s followed by the election of the Speaker, and then the Deputy Speaker.<\/p>\n<p>The president is nominated and voted for, generally after lunch on day one.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2024 Elections | Observers give the polls the thumbs up:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/h-bmiFYLS00?si=9lHlSmZiuxftg76_\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The Democratic Alliance (DA) has comfortably scooped 75.3% of the international vote in South Africa\u2019s general election.<\/p>\n<p>This as 100%\u00a0 of the international votes have been captured.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabcnews.com\/sabcnews\/effs-floyd-shivambu-concedes-defeat-to-mk-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)<\/a>\u00a0garnered 4.4% of the vote and the ANC 3.92% of the vote.<\/p>\n<p>58 802 of South Africans living abroad were registered to vote in this election. However, only 67% turned out to vote, in their respective countries.
