{"id":967734,"date":"2024-06-01T12:06:57","date_gmt":"2024-06-01T12:06:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/dm-simulator-v2\/?p=967734"},"modified":"2024-06-01T12:06:57","modified_gmt":"2024-06-01T12:06:57","slug":"ifp-not-desperate-to-join-coalitions-hlabisa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elections.sabc.co.za\/elections2024\/ifp-not-desperate-to-join-coalitions-hlabisa\/","title":{"rendered":"IFP not desperate to join coalitions: Hlabisa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"rt-reading-time\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\">2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) says it is not desperate to form coalitions with any of the political parties just yet.<\/p>\n<p>The party&#8217;s leader Velenkosini Hlabisa addressed the media on Saturday at the National Results Operations Centre in Midrand, adding the party would participate in the Multi-Party Charter (MPC) talks to be held later in the evening.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We not desperate to get into a coalition for the sake of a coalition,&#8221; Hlabisa said.<\/p>\n<p>He indicated that the IFP&#8217;s national executive committee would also meet on Sunday to reflect on the results and map a way forward.<\/p>\n<p>The IFP has so far garnered 610 457 votes which equates to 3.9% support at a national level.<\/p>\n<p>This is a slight increase compared to the 3.38% it received in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Hlabisa maintained the IFP was pleased with its performance at the polls and that as a partner of the MPC, they had achieved their goal of unseating the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The IFP is looking forward to the first sitting of Parliament. We are going to be a game changer. We will be a strong voice of the people of South Africa and the IFP will make informed decisions in the best interests of the South Africans,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>He commended the IEC for a job well done despite discrepancies raised by some political parties regarding the capturing of results.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I know there are cases of discrepancies&#8230; The IEC knows too much is at stake and it can&#8217;t lose credibility.
