{"id":967888,"date":"2024-06-03T08:45:55","date_gmt":"2024-06-03T08:45:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/dm-simulator-v2\/?p=967888"},"modified":"2024-06-03T08:45:55","modified_gmt":"2024-06-03T08:45:55","slug":"ramaphosa-pleads-with-parties-to-work-together","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elections.sabc.co.za\/elections2024\/ramaphosa-pleads-with-parties-to-work-together\/","title":{"rendered":"Ramaphosa pleads with parties to work together"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"rt-reading-time\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\">&lt; 1<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minute<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>President Cyril Ramaphosa has made an impassioned plea to political parties to work together for the good of the country.<\/p>\n<p>The African National Congress (ANC) achieved just over 40% of the votes, followed by the Democratic Alliance (DA) with almost 22%, the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK) secured over 14% and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) over 9%.<\/p>\n<p>Voter turnout was 58.61%.<\/p>\n<p>Over 16-million South Africans voted in the 2024 elections.<\/p>\n<p>Ramaphosa says the results of the elections reflect the will of South Africans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat this election has made plain, is that the people of South Africa expect their leaders to work together to meet their needs. They expect the parties for which they have voted to find common ground, to overcome their differences, to act and work together for the good of everyone,\u201d adds Ramaphosa.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, t<span xml_lang=\"en-us\">he DA says it has appointed a team of senior members who will embark on talks with other political parties regarding coalitions at national and provincial levels.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">The DA leader John <\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">Steenhuisen<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">\u00a0says the party\u2019s leadership has agreed\u00a0<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">on how to explore coalition talks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>2024 Elections | Could a government of national unity be on the cards?
