{"id":967921,"date":"2024-06-04T09:59:52","date_gmt":"2024-06-04T09:59:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/dm-simulator-v2\/?p=967921"},"modified":"2024-06-04T09:59:52","modified_gmt":"2024-06-04T09:59:52","slug":"business-leaders-urge-parties-to-form-a-stable-coalition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elections.sabc.co.za\/elections2024\/business-leaders-urge-parties-to-form-a-stable-coalition\/","title":{"rendered":"Business leaders urge parties to form a stable coalition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"rt-reading-time\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\">2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-za\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabcnews.com\/sabcnews\/anc-da-coalition-will-bode-well-for-the-sa-economy-analyst\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Business leaders<\/a> have urged political parties to accept the 2024 election results and\u00a0<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">work towards forming a stable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabcnews.com\/sabcnews\/ramaphosa-pleads-with-parties-to-work-together\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coalition<\/a> that puts the country first.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-za\">This African National Congress (<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-za\">ANC)<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-za\">\u00a0<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">has\u00a0<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-za\">embark<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">ed<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-za\">\u00a0on coalition negotiations with opposition parties after losing its parliamentary majority for the first time since 1994<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">The\u00a0<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">ANC\u2019s<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\"> votes have fallen to just over 40% n<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-za\">ationally<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-za\">.<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This was followed by the Democratic Alliance (DA) with almost 22%, the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK) secured over 14% and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) over 9%.<\/p>\n<p>Voter turnout was 58.61%.<\/p>\n<p>Over 16 million South Africans voted in the 2024 elections.<\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-za\">The CEO of Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA), <\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-za\">Busisiwe<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-za\">\u00a0<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-za\">Mavuso,<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-za\">\u00a0says\u00a0<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">this is a very <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabcnews.com\/sabcnews\/possibility-of-a-coalition-govt-brings-uncertainty-amongst-businesses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">difficult time for the country<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-za\">\u201c<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">We don\u2019t want to see a chaotic coalition, we don\u2019t want to see strained and ineffective decision making, we don\u2019t want to see disunity within the coalition, we don\u2019t want to see a coalition that is going to bring in a failure to implement even the most basic of services. I mean, think about the City of <\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">Joburg \u2013 <\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">eight mayors in two years. It has been absolutely chaotic. Coalitions can work. You just have to make sure that you get partners that will be of the single-minded focus.
