{"id":967933,"date":"2024-06-05T07:39:54","date_gmt":"2024-06-05T07:39:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/dm-simulator-v2\/?p=967933"},"modified":"2024-06-05T07:39:54","modified_gmt":"2024-06-05T07:39:54","slug":"anc-da-coalition-will-never-benefit-workers-cosatu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elections.sabc.co.za\/elections2024\/anc-da-coalition-will-never-benefit-workers-cosatu\/","title":{"rendered":"ANC-DA coalition will never benefit workers: Cosatu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"rt-reading-time\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\">2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) says a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabcnews.com\/sabcnews\/anc-da-coalition-will-bode-well-for-the-sa-economy-analyst\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coalition government<\/a> between the African National Congress (ANC) and the Democratic Alliance (DA) will not be beneficial to the workers.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time in 30 years, the ANC has failed to obtain majority votes to form a new government.<\/p>\n<p>Political parties are still engaging in talks even in some provinces where there is no outright winner.<\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">The\u00a0<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">ANC\u2019s<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">\u00a0votes have fallen to just over 40% n<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-za\">ationally, with v<\/span>oter turnout at just 58.61%.<\/p>\n<p>Cosatu spokesperson Matthew Parks says the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabcnews.com\/sabcnews\/da-open-to-coalition-with-anc-pledges-loyalty-to-mpc-partners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DA<\/a> supports anti-worker policies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur concern with the DA is that the DA\u2019s election manifesto speaks about scrapping labour laws, and you have the history of the DA since 1994 working against the labour laws. It would be impossible for us to agree to scrapping the labour laws or any workers\u2019 rights. I mean, think about the City of\u00a0<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">Joburg \u2013\u00a0<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">eight mayors in two years. It has been absolutely chaotic. Coalitions can work. You just have to make sure that you get partners that will be of the single-minded focus.
