{"id":967939,"date":"2024-06-05T10:15:53","date_gmt":"2024-06-05T10:15:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/dm-simulator-v2\/?p=967939"},"modified":"2024-06-05T10:15:53","modified_gmt":"2024-06-05T10:15:53","slug":"anc-should-not-be-dictated-to-during-coalition-talks-sacp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elections.sabc.co.za\/elections2024\/anc-should-not-be-dictated-to-during-coalition-talks-sacp\/","title":{"rendered":"ANC should not be dictated to during coalition talks: SACP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"rt-reading-time\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\">2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>South African Communist Party (SACP) Politburo Member, Dr Alex Mashilo, says although they have reservations about certain political parties that may seek to get into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabcnews.com\/sabcnews\/ramaphosa-pleads-with-parties-to-work-together\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coalition<\/a> with the African National Congress (ANC), they will not disclose their preferences until engagements with all Tripartite Alliance members.<\/p>\n<p>This comes as the ANC\u2019s National Executive Committee (NEC) is set to meet to decide on the constitution of government following a below-par performance in the 2024 General Elections.<\/p>\n<p>The ANC failed to reach a majority for the National Assembly at just 40.2%.<\/p>\n<p>The party also failed to get a majority at provincial level in KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and Northern Cape.<\/p>\n<p>Mashilo says the ANC leadership should not allow itself to be dictated to by any of the political parties they decide to get into coalition agreements with.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt should be clear who will lead the coalition agreement. We will indicate to the ANC and other alliance partners that we don\u2019t want a coalition that is against the working class. The ANC is still leading with votes so they must not be dictated to by other parties.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4><strong>VIDEO | Coalition talks in progress \u2013 Mbhazima Shilowa elaborates:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pWsaUPGX31I?si=9oi1ttggo2yRztLj\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cANC must work with DA\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, former ANC Deputy Secretary-General and veteran leader, Cheryl Carolus, says the ANC and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabcnews.com\/sabcnews\/anc-da-coalition-will-bode-well-for-the-sa-economy-analyst\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Democratic Alliance (DA) must work together<\/a> as they are the two parties that got the most votes.<\/p>\n<p>Carolus says the electorate has spoken and both parties must lead the nation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that the people have spoken and what the people have said is they\u2019ve given over 60% of the vote to the ANC and the DA. Now the ANC members and DA members might not like it but that is just the fact, and I think that as the two biggest parties, they have a responsibility not rights over us. They have the responsibility to lead us.
