{"id":968017,"date":"2024-06-12T10:06:51","date_gmt":"2024-06-12T10:06:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/dm-simulator-v2\/?p=968017"},"modified":"2024-06-12T10:06:51","modified_gmt":"2024-06-12T10:06:51","slug":"coalition-agreement-on-the-cards-in-kwazulu-natal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elections.sabc.co.za\/elections2024\/coalition-agreement-on-the-cards-in-kwazulu-natal\/","title":{"rendered":"Coalition agreement on the cards in KwaZulu-Natal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"rt-reading-time\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\">2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">The Democratic Alliance (DA) in <\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">KwaZulu<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">-Natal says its determination to exclude the <\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">uMkhonto<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">\u00a0we\u00a0<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">Sizwe<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\"> (MK) party and the Economic Freedom Fighters (<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">EFF)<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\"> has led to negotiations for a coalition agreement between the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabcnews.com\/sabcnews\/anc-kzn-admits-underestimating-impact-of-mk-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">African National Congress<\/a> (<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">ANC)<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">, DA, Inkatha Freedom Party (<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">IFP)<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\"> and the National Freedom Party (<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">NFP)<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabcnews.com\/sabcnews\/945554-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MK Party won in the province<\/a> but without an outright majority and the <\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">IFP<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">\u00a0remains the official opposition. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">DA provincial chairperson Dean <\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">Macpherson<\/span><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">\u00a0says they have put aside historical differences in their negotiations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml_lang=\"en-us\">&#8220;We have to put the people of KwaZulu-Natal and South Africa ahead of sometimes narrow party political interests. In this case, there are only six political parties represented in the legislature. There has been a consolidation of political parties &#8211; not a fragmentation in this case. So that only really leaves four other political parties or four, including ourselves to work with.
