The <\/span>Democratic Alliance (DA)<\/span><\/a> wants equitable power sharing within the newly formed Government of National Unity (GNU).<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>It has called on the African National Congress (ANC), one of the GNU\u2019s founding members, to maintain a balance in the composition of the impending national executive cabinet.<\/span><\/p>\n

Federal Council Chairperson Helen Zille believes the ANC must acknowledge that the DA is a crucial partner and must be given a powerful position.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Her remarks come as <\/span>President Cyril Ramaphosa is yet to announce his new cabine<\/span><\/a>t amid demands by various political parties.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u201cWe can\u2019t be held to ransom. I mean the DA is <\/span>a very serious<\/span> partner in this. We can\u2019t just be a walking stick to help the ANC continue as it has done before. We have <\/span>to be able<\/span> to have some real influence and power in the government to make life better for South Africans,\u201d she says.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Zille, who has been vocal on the nature of negotiations behind closed doors since the formation of the GNU, emphasized that her party can\u2019t be used as a \u201ccrutch\u201d to support the ANC.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Meanwhile, since its establishment, several political parties have joined the GNU and these include the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), GOOD Party, <\/span>Patriotic Alliance (PA), Pan African Congress (PAC), United Democratic Movement (UDM), the Freedom Front Plus (FF PLUS) and Al Jama-ah.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Rise Mzansi was the latest addition to the GNU.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>This brings to 10 the total amount of parties that <\/span>joined<\/span> thus far.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
