The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party in Durban has described the remarks by Democratic Alliance (DA) Federal Council chairperson Helen Zille, in which she said “KZN will not be thrown to dogs,” as hate speech.
The MK Party says it is planning a march and legal action against Zille over the remarks.
However, Zille maintains that her statement was misconstrued and meant to convey concerns about the potential consequences if MK and EFF were to gain power in the province.
MK Party Organiser in Durban, Michael Bongani Cele says Zille’s comments about KwaZulu-Natal being “thrown to the dogs” are derogatory and targeted at MK and EFF members.
” The speech that was made by Helen Zille, we feel is a hate speech and that’s why it’s sitting on the desk of our legal team to look at it. She mentioned EFF and MK and said they won’t allow KZN people to be ruled by dogs, we think it is hate speech. As a citizen of SA, being black called by a person we respect in politics, calling other people dogs it unacceptable.”
