Polokwane Mayor cancels tenders, alleges contractor sabotage

The Mayor of Polokwane Municipality in Limpopo John Mpe has cancelled tenders for low-maintenance services. He says the decision was taken due to alleged sabotage of the municipal services by contractors to win tenders with the municipality.

Mpe adds that municipal workers will be doing the maintenance work.

The mayor further stresses that the new strategy will save the city millions of rands.

“There are various areas where we have stopped tenders. We have said the reason why we have to mention it is because in other municipalities there will be a park like this and people will be tempted to say somebody can come and do it nicely and quickly.”

“We have decided to utilize our own staff and own workers within the environment and we are confident that this is part of us saving money,” explains Mpe.
