The IEC has released a statement clarifying the update of the elections dashboard.

This amid circulating reports that the IEC had released different results of the elections.

The Electoral Act prescribes that for the calculation of compensatory seats both national compensatory ballots and regional ballots are taken into account.

It has also dismissed reports that the NFP has no seat in the KZN legislature.

The Party has filed an application to that effect at the Constitutional Court.

South Africa's newly elected National Assembly is due to convene on Friday for the swearing-in of lawmakers, and elect its speaker, deputy speaker as well as the country's President.

South Africa's ruling African National Congress (ANC) party is contemplating forming a government of national unity that will bring political parties to work together.

The party says the result of the May 29 national election, which did not produce an outright winner, indicates that South Africans want all political parties to work together for the benefit of the people and country.

Analysts say the lack of cooperation among political parties in the municipalities should be blamed for coalition failure.

Lets take you back to 1994 where the interim constitution negotiated by the multi-party negotiations to end apartheid that started in 1990 allowed all parties that gained more than 10% of the vote to participate in a Government of National Unity.

The new government that was elected in the 1994 general election therefore had members from many political parties in the cabinet.

This government of national unity lasted until the 1999 general election, although it was dominated by the African National Congress and a reported lack of shared decision-making prompted the second-largest party, the National Party, to withdraw from the GNU in 1996.

But would adopting the late President Nelson Mandela's model of a Government of National Unity , like the one adopted in1994 be the panacea for a stable government? Joining us virtually is Political analyst Levy Ndou.
